Regional Onkologic Center (ROC) conducts and supports research of various kinds, e.g. clinical studies of academic research groups. ROC provides services, such as randomization, construc-tion and operation of data-bases, statistical planning and evaluation. Accordingly ROC can faci-litate research that lacks strong commercial funding and it also helps scientists by being an in-dependent body that guarantees data quality, data security and integrity protection.Quality registers are increasingly used for research. Research based on quality registers is often focused on long-term results of the introduction of new medical technologies, causes to regional differences in cancer survival, efficient use of resources and surveillance of side effects. Quality registers are also used to identify groups that can be studied more carefully in order to get a better understanding of tumor biology and treatment effects.ROC also conducts traditional epidemiological research, often based on data from the regional cancer register which has data from 1958 and onwards. |
